In the past few days some significant changes have been made to the website.
Email Notification of Site Updates
Everyone now has the option to be notified via email when a new post is published. Click on the links which say Email Notification in the top right corner, in the right rail or follow this link. Alternatively a great way to keep abreast of the updates made on this site as well as other blogs you may read is to use an RSS reader.
Google Maps on the Home Page
The home page has changed with the most visible update being the addition of a map. There is a blue line on the map which represents out route as it is mapped out by the Adventure Cycling Association. For each post we publish a push pin will appear on the map and link to the full text of that post. Only the most recent post will be displayed on the front page now with a link to a page with earlier posts.
Trip Statistics
Additionally, in the header of the front page we’ve added some statistics so you can quickly check out our status. Look for the miles ridden, feet climbed and days on the trail to start incrementing soon.
Integration with MotionBased
Finally, we’ve worked out the details to show a summary for each day’s ride inside of each post. We both have GPS units mounted on the handlebars so everyone can follow along (even when we take a wrong turn) using Google Maps and Google Earth.
Upgrade to WordPress v2.2
At the same time I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress, the blogging software behind the site. It looks like everything is working but if you see any quirky behavior please let me know.

Hey Guys –
I was looking at your map, and I think maybe you’d make it there faster if you went in a straight line.
Good Luck,
Martin

Hey Willy (and Chuck),
You will pass about 10 miles from Leadville, Colorado. But that’s only if you ride straight. And since you are not even ON roads at that point in your trip, I suggest you just ride straight up the mountain and straight down; shortest distance. Actually it looks to be about 30-40 miles along the road from Frisco, on your planned route. What’s another 60 miles on 2,700???
At some point I could put you in touch with Mountain Man Jim and he could show you around. Maybe he might offer his place to stay. He’s a big fisherman if you’re into that. One other point worth mentioning is that Leadville is the highest populated town in the US at 9,500 feet or something. Could check that off your list of bike riding accomplishments.
Also checked out Chuck’s ice climbing video…Awesome awesome. You can really experience the fear of falling, not just the height but the Scissor-hands boots in a leg factor.
We’ll try to meet in August.
Take care and good luck,
Mark

Martin,
Willy’s lucky to have me along as a navigator. Can you imagine how crooked the path would be if here navigating this himself?
Really more than a straight line we’re realizing we should have started from Canada — then it would have been all downhill.

Jill,
Pictures will be forthcoming. I just picked up a new Canon SD800 so now it will be a lot easier to capture the action instead of having to stop and get out the huge Nikon D200 every time we want to get a snap.
